Hospice Services

Hospice Services by the Visiting Nurse Association Serving Morris and Hunterdon Counties, New Jersey

"The role of a hospice nurse is a very special one and I'm pleased to be able to assist my patients and their families during one of the most stressful and emotional times that anyone will face. Although I cannot offer my patients cures for their illnesses, there is much that I can do from both a medical and human perspective."
- A VNA registered nurse and certified hospice and palliative care nurse

"I believe that everyone deserves the best possible care. I care for each patient the way that I cared for my own sister when she was seriously ill."
- A VNA certified home health aide

The most important skill required to be a good hospice volunteer is the ability to be a good friend and supportive companion."
- A long-time VNA Hospice volunteer visitor

Everyone who turns to the VNA for hospice care receives the assistance of a specially certified hospice and palliative care nurse. Based upon the specific needs and wishes of each patient and their family, the nurse/team leader calls upon:

Collectively, the VNA Hospice team is well-qualified to:

  • Address medical needs such as pain and symptom management
  • Counsel both the patient and their loved ones
  • Assist with personal hygiene and housekeeping chores
  • Give primary caregivers a respite
  • Provide companionship and encouragement

In the difficult months immediately following the passing of a loved one, VNA Hospice remains committed to supporting the family with individual and group bereavement counseling assistance. One component of our support program is the annual Celebration of Life event where the lives of loved ones lost are honored during a special outdoor ceremony at the VNA office in Morristown, followed by the lighting of the VNA beech tree. The tree remains lit during the holidays in remembrance. Additionally, friends and family are invited to submit photos and written tributes to VNA's Web Memorial. This meaningful and lasting way to commemorate the life of a loved one is available to view online at any time. Visit to create a memorial, to view Memorials or contact the VNA Foundation at 973-451-4169 or 973-451-4119 for more information.
